1830

Abram Pulman & Sons was founded

Founded in Halifax West Yorkshire by Abram Pulman iron merchant (1794-1863), on Lister Lane and later at Weymouth Street then Horton Street all in Halifax.

1898

Acquired by F C Shoesmith

In 1898 the company was incorporated and acquired by F C Shoesmith and J Illingworth, both Iron and Steel Merchants, joined forces to take control

1984

MOVED TO ONE LOCATION

Moved all works to one site on Walton Street Sowerby Bridge investing in people, machinery and vehicles

1993

Mr C R Shoesmith Retires

After starting on 5th December 1949, Mr C R Shoesmith Retired on 30th November 1993

2015

SITE FLOODED

One of many businesses affected by the catastrophic Boxing Day floods that hit Yorkshire and Lancashire

2016

BACK & BETTER

Site reopens after the floods with new production machinery

2019

Mr D N Shoesmith Retires

After starting on 1st September 1984, Mr D N Shoesmith Retired on 11th November 2019

ACQUIRED BY BREAL CAPITAL

On the retirement of David Shoesmith the Company was acquired by Breal Capital.

2022

ACQUIRED BY MARUBENI – ITOCHU STEEL INC

The Barclay & Mathieson Steel Group (B&M Group) of which Abram Pulman’s are part of has been acquired by Marubeni – Itochu Steel Inc. (MISI)

Mr Chris Horner Retires

After starting on 7th May 1985, MD Mr Chris Horner Retired on 31th December 2022

2023

Debbie Roberts Promoted to MD

After starting on 14th June 1982, Debbie Roberts was promoted to MD at the start of the year.

 

Pulman Steel operates from offices and warehouses in Sowerby Bridge, close to where it originated over 180 years ago and provides steel services to Yorkshire, Lancashire and the Humber.
